Custom Billboard Printing NYC — Designed, Printed, and Produced In-House
At Signs New York, we provide billboard printing services for businesses, advertising agencies, property owners, and media companies across New York City, New Jersey, and the tri-state area. We’ve been producing large format outdoor graphics since 1989 — over 35 years of printing billboards, wallscapes, construction site panels, and event backdrops on vinyl scrim built to survive outdoors.
We print billboard graphics on 13oz and 18oz vinyl scrim using UV-resistant, weather-rated inks. When a billboard exceeds our maximum roll width, we produce it in sections and heat-weld the panels for a structurally reinforced, visually seamless join. Every graphic is finished with grommets, pole pockets, or webbing matched to the structure’s mounting system.
Our billboard printing services include design, artwork preparation, file optimization for large format output, color proofing, production, finishing, and on-site installation when needed. Everything is produced in-house at our New York facility. We do not sell or broker billboard advertising space — we produce the physical vinyl graphic.
Heat-Welded Panel Construction
Multi-panel billboards fused at the seams — stronger than the vinyl itself, invisible at viewing distance.
Design & File Prep Included
Full billboard design or agency file optimization — resolution, color, and readability reviewed before printing.
UV-Resistant, Weather-Rated Inks
Printed to survive direct sun, rain, wind, and freeze-thaw cycles for 1–3 years outdoors.

Every billboard finished with mounting hardware matched to your specific structure.

Scrim Vinyl, Finishing & Outdoor Durability
What billboard graphics are made of, how they’re assembled, how they attach to the structure, and how long they last outdoors.
13oz Front-Lit Scrim Vinyl
The standard billboard material — PVC with a woven polyester scrim core (1000×1000 denier) for tear resistance. White opaque face for vivid color reproduction. UV-resistant, waterproof, and fire-retardant. Typical outdoor lifespan: 2–3 years north-facing, 1–2 years south-facing in full sun. Colors fade before the material fails structurally.
18oz Blockout Scrim Vinyl
Heavy-duty billboard vinyl with an opaque black liner between the two print surfaces. Used for double-sided billboards (no show-through), high-wind locations (rooftops, elevated highways, coastal), long-term installations, and backlit structures. Better wind resistance and longer lifespan than 13oz in exposed positions.
Heat-Welded Panel Construction
Billboards wider than our maximum print roll are produced as multiple panels, heat-welded (thermally fused) at the seams — not stitched, not taped. The weld is stronger than the vinyl itself. Seam positions are planned in prepress to fall along color transitions or design edges, never through faces, text, or logos.
Grommets
Metal-reinforced holes punched every 12–24 inches along the perimeter. The standard attachment for most billboard structures — accepts rope, cable, bungee cord, or zip ties. Spacing matched to the structure's attachment points.
Pole Pockets
Folded vinyl sleeves welded along the edges for fiberglass rod or aluminum pipe tensioning. Common on poster-style structures and freestanding billboards where the vinyl is pulled taut across the face.
Webbing & D-Rings
Reinforced nylon straps with metal D-ring attachments for cable tensioning. Used on large wallscapes and building-mounted billboards where the graphic is tensioned with cables or turnbuckles rather than grommeted to a frame.
Design, Artwork & File Preparation
Whether you need a billboard designed from scratch, have agency-ready files, or need an existing campaign adapted for outdoor — we handle the full artwork pipeline.
Full Billboard Design
No artwork? Our design team creates billboard layouts optimized for distance readability — bold headlines, high-contrast color, clean hierarchy, and a single clear call to action. We provide scaled mockups on the actual structure dimensions for approval before printing.
Campaign Adaptation for OOH
Have a campaign designed for digital or print? We adapt it for billboard scale — adjusting type sizes for viewing distance, simplifying layouts for highway speed, converting color modes, and rebuilding files at the correct resolution for large format output.
Resolution & File Setup
Billboard output resolution is 15–40 dpi at actual size — not 300 dpi. Most files are designed at 1/4 or 1/8 scale. We accept files at any scale (AI, EPS, PDF, PSD, TIFF) and handle conversion in prepress. Billboard text should be readable in 3–5 seconds — one inch of letter height per 10 feet of viewing distance.
Color Proofing & Approval
Every billboard job includes a digital proof before production. Colors on scrim vinyl in direct sunlight look different than on a monitor. We advise on expectations based on material and outdoor conditions. PMS matching available for brand-critical work. Submit files in CMYK — Pantone is converted to process.
How Billboard Printing Works — From File to Finished Graphic
The production workflow — what happens between receiving your artwork and delivering a finished vinyl panel.
1. File Review & Prepress
We review your artwork for resolution, color mode, bleed, and readability at the intended viewing distance. Issues are flagged before production begins. Digital proof provided for color approval.
2. Panel Layout & Planning
For multi-panel billboards, seam positions are placed in visually neutral areas. Each panel is printed with overlap and registration marks for precise alignment during installation.
3. Large Format Printing
Panels are printed on 13oz or 18oz vinyl scrim with UV-resistant inks. Print quality is optimized for the viewing distance — sharp, vivid graphics from 50 to 500+ feet. Colors calibrated for outdoor daylight.
4. Heat Welding, Finishing & QC
Panels are heat-welded at the seams, fitted with grommets, pole pockets, or webbing, and quality-checked for color consistency, seam alignment, and finishing integrity before delivery.
Your Local Billboard Printing Company in NYC
NYC-Based. Tri-State Coverage. National Shipping.
Our billboard graphics are produced at our New York facility — not outsourced to a printer in another state. When you work with us, you talk to the people producing your billboard. Questions about panel layout, finishing hardware, or file prep get answered by the team doing the work.
For local jobs, you can pick up finished graphics directly from our shop or we deliver across NYC and Northern New Jersey. We also ship finished billboard vinyl nationwide via freight for customers outside the region.
Standard billboard printing turnaround is 3–5 business days from proof approval. Because production is local and in-house, we accommodate rush orders for time-sensitive campaigns — product launches, event promotions, political cycles, and construction timelines that can’t wait.

Frequently Asked Questions
No. We are a billboard printing company. We produce the physical vinyl graphic. We do not sell, rent, or broker billboard advertising space, and we do not handle media buying or campaign planning. If you’ve secured space through a media company or own your own structure, we print the graphic.
Vinyl scrim — PVC banner material with a woven polyester scrim core for tear resistance. We offer 13oz front-lit scrim (standard for most single-sided applications) and 18oz blockout scrim (for double-sided, high-wind, long-term, and backlit applications). Both are UV-resistant, waterproof, and fire-retardant.
15–40 dpi at actual output size. If you’re designing at 1/4 scale, use 150 dpi. Billboard graphics are viewed from 100+ feet — they don’t need brochure-level resolution. We review all files in prepress and advise if resolution is insufficient.
1–3 years depending on sun exposure, compass orientation, wind, and vinyl weight. South-facing in full sun degrades faster. For long-term installations, 18oz blockout with UV-lamination provides maximum durability. Most OOH campaigns rotate creative every 4–12 weeks, so material lifespan isn’t usually the limiting factor.
13oz front-lit is standard — lighter, cost-effective, suitable for most single-sided outdoor applications. 18oz blockout is heavier, has a black liner for double-sided printing, and is better for high-wind, long-term, and backlit applications. We recommend the right weight based on your structure and conditions.
Yes. Our in-house design team creates billboard layouts optimized for outdoor readability, or we work from your agency’s print-ready files. We also adapt existing campaigns for billboard scale. Every job includes a proof for approval before printing.
Sintra is expanded PVC — a rigid plastic board that’s lightweight, weather-resistant, and moderately priced. Dibond is aluminum composite — two thin aluminum sheets bonded to a polyethylene core, making it significantly more rigid, completely rust-proof, and premium-priced. For most outdoor signage that needs to last 2–5 years, Sintra works well. For permanent applications (5–10+ years), Dibond is the better choice.
Yes. We use 18oz blockout scrim — a heavier vinyl with an opaque liner that prevents images from bleeding through. Each side can carry a different design. Common for freestanding structures visible from both directions of traffic.
Either. If you have print-ready artwork (PDF, AI, EPS, or high-resolution images), we accept your files and review them for print compatibility. If you need design help, our team creates the layout — send us your logo, text, and direction on colors and style, and we’ll produce a proof for your approval before printing.
In most cases, yes. The NYC Department of Buildings (DOB) requires sign permits for billboard structures, and DOT regulates signage along certain roadways. Requirements depend on type, size, location, and zoning. We don’t handle permitting directly but can advise on what’s typically required and coordinate production timing with your permit expeditor.
Yes. We offer on-site installation across the tri-state area, including billboard removal, campaign swaps, and vinyl snipe updates. Installation is optional — many customers handle their own mounting.
We produce billboard graphics at our New York facility and deliver across all five NYC boroughs, Long Island, Northern New Jersey, Westchester, and Connecticut. We also ship nationwide via freight.
3–5 business days from proof approval for most formats. Large multi-panel billboards may require additional time. Rush production is available — contact us with your deadline.
Scale and construction. Banners are typically single-panel prints. Billboards are multi-panel productions heat-welded at the seams and engineered for structural mounting at height. Same vinyl family, different file prep, finishing, and logistics.
