What NYC Allows on Sheds and Scaffolds
One shed, six rules. Green is allowed or required, red is not allowed, blue is the scaffold face.
Required on every shed: 6 x 3 ft, white with DOB blue text, one per frontage (BC 3301.9.2).
Allowed in front of a store the shed hides: up to 4 ft high and no bigger than the blocked sign (BC 3301.9.6).
No signs hung under the deck of the shed.
No signs sticking out from the side or face of the shed, and no lit signs (BC 3301.9.8).
Plain mesh, or art approved through City Canvas. No ads or business messages (BC 3301.9.7).
Post the shed permit with permit numbers, expiration dates and the holder's contact.
Storefront signs that stay up more than 30 days need a DOB sign permit. Our team handles sign permits in NYC.
